New Superintendent Appointed

On June 10, 2019, the SRCS Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Jim Hogeboom as SRCS' next Superintendent, beginning July 1, 2019. Mr. Hogeboom's appointment follows an extensive search, which brought an excellent field of 24 highly-qualified candidates, including 12 superintendents. The Board's decision is a reflection of input gathered from key stakeholder groups in the District regarding the qualities desired in SRCS' next leader.

Transition to Trustee Area Elections

REMINDER:

  • Public Hearing on July 15 in the SRCS Board Room (310 Nova Albion Way) at 6 pm.
  • Community Forum on July 17 at the Venetia Valley Library (177 N San Pedro Rd) at 6:30 pm.

There will be a discussion on the initial draft maps. These meetings are open to all community members and stakeholders. Spanish interpreting will be provided.

We need your input! Join us and share your feedback as we discuss the future of SRCS' trustee-area elections.

SRCS is switching to by-trustee area elections. Beginning in 2020, the SRCS Board of Education will be elected based on trustee areas, rather than having all registered voters vote for all five Board members. The change is being implemented to comply with the California Voting Rights Act.

The Board is undertaking a mapping process to define the trustee areas. To avoid litigation, SRCS must complete the process by Sept. 11, 2019.

There is a series of upcoming Public Hearings and Community Forums - the public is welcome and encouraged to attend! Community members are also able to create their own maps via map-drawing tools.

Visit www.srcs.org/trustee-elections to view the schedule, check out the mapping tools, read FAQs and more!

2019 LCAPS APPROVED

San Rafael City Schools conducted an in-depth, targeted and multi-layered engagement process in 2018-19 to update its Local Control Accountability Plans (LCAP) for each district. This engagement process included multiple opportunities to review the LCAP and to provide feedback on the plans to improve achievement for all SRCA students.

The final versions of "Year 3" of the LCAPs for 2017-2020 were approved by the SRCS Board of Education on June 26, 2019.

Please visit www.srcs.org/lcap for more information and to download the approved LCAPs. If you have any questions, please email communications@srcs.org or call 415-492-3576.

SRCS to Get EV Charging Stations

Nine San Rafael City Schools (SRCS) campuses will get Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations thanks to the combined resources and support of the Transportation Authority of Marin, Marin Clean Energy and Pacific Gas and Electric. Adding these charging stations positions SRCS as a leader supporting California’s clean energy goals. The SRCS Board of Education approved the project at its December 17 meeting.

The schools being identified for EV stations include: Terra Linda High School; San Rafael High School; Madrone Continuation High School; Davidson Middle School; and Glenwood, Bahia Vista, Coleman, Sun Valley and San Pedro elementary schools.

The District successfully applied for and acquired specialized grants and rebates to install and cover the EV charging equipment cost.
